Peace Surplus Joins Grassroots

Grassroots Outdoor Alliance announced that Arizona-based Peace Surplus has joined the organization as a Retail Member. Founded in 1973 in downtown Tucson by the Chatinsky family, Peace Surplus’ roots were based in military surplus with an ample supply of weather balloons, parachutes, military fatigues, gurneys, ammo cans and much more.

Even though it continues to carry the surplus name, the store has evolved into a full-service outdoor, camping, hiking and backpacking store.

Today, Peace Surplus has become a one stop shop in Flagstaff, Ariz., for any skier, climber, hiker, hunter, river runner or outdoor enthusiast on any budget. Peace Surplus offers shoppers a wide variety of brand names as well as summer and winter rental programs.

“I love these guys. Steve and his crew are great to work with and I have over the years built a great partnership with them,” said Mountain Hardwear National Sales Manager Tom Shores. “I was in Flag in early July and they were celebrating their 40th anniversary.”

With such a great reputation in their community, Peace Surplus will fit well into the roster of fine independent outdoor specialty retailers that belong to Grassroots.

“Peace Surplus is very proud to become part of the Grassroots Outdoor Alliance,” said Steve Chatinsky, President of Peace Surplus. ”We look forward to working side by side with other great outdoor stores and some of the industries best vendors.”
