July 4th is shaping up to be a banner holiday for the parks and monuments maintained by the National Park Service. According to priceline.com’s annual list of the Top 50 destinations for Independence Day, Washington, DC, was #10, followed by #29 Yellowstone, #33 Niagara Falls, #36 The Black Hills, and #47 Yosemite. Priceline.com’s list is based on hotel reservations already made for the holiday weekend.
“It looks like many Americans are coming back to their roots on Independence Day and visiting the sites that our part of our national heritage, like Mount Rushmore, Fort McHenry, the Washington Monument, and our national parks,” said priceline.com Travel Editor Brian Ek. “Visitors to national parks and monuments over the holiday weekend will be well-advised to plan for crowds and allow plenty of travel time.”
