Rock Spot Expands Northeast Footprint

Rock Spot Climbing, a longstanding Northeast climbing gym chain, has acquired Prime Climb in nearby Wallingford, Connecticut. Previously managing five gyms between Rhode Island and Massachusetts ― the first of which, Rock Spot Lincoln, has been operating since 1998 (formerly as RI Rock Gym of Pawtucket) ― the Rock Spot gym family now includes six climbing facilities spanning three states.

Rock Spot will soon begin construction on a seventh facility, a bouldering-focused gym located in Malden, Massachusetts, which was announced shortly after the acquisition.

A press release introducing the Prime Climb acquisition by Rock Spot ― which is co-owned by Nadav Minkin and Lary Norin ― emphasized the goal of expanding its gym chain beyond its existing footprint.

First opened in 1993, Prime Climb is among the early ‘90s gyms to have pioneered a commercial climbing gym business in the United States. Originally founded by Stephen Messina, Prime Climb was recently owned by Brien Roscetti, who bought the gym over a decade ago and helped grow its climbing and program offerings. Today the facility provides more than 14,000 square feet of roped climbing (up to 40 feet tall) and bouldering, as well as adaptive and youth programming.
