REI Co-op Invites Members to Re/Supply Clackamas Grand Opening

REI Co-op is celebrating the opening of its second used outdoor gear and apparel store called REI Re/Supply Clackamas from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 2. REI members are invited to participate in the event filled with outdoor and community partners, music and a special giveaway (while supplies last).

The celebration also will include Nikwax and Gear Aid as well as local nonprofits of Latino Outdoors and Forest Park Conservancy.

The REI Re/Supply Clackamas store is a new retail format for the co-op that is focused on providing members with access to high-quality, used outdoor gear and apparel at great prices. Only REI members will be able to purchase and trade in products at REI Re/Supply Clackamas, but everyone is welcome to browse.

The store’s inventory will change frequently, and members can expect to find a range of outdoor clothing, outerwear, footwear and gear such as tents, packs and sleeping bags at 30 percent to 60 percent off original retail prices.

The store is at Clackamas Town Center, 11860 SE 82nd Ave., Space K130, Happy Valley, Oregon, off I-205 Exit 14. The location is steps away from the co-op’s existing location which has served the outdoor community since 2007.

“The co-op has long supported giving lightly used outdoor gear and apparel a new life through our Re/Supply program,” said Megan McElroy, REI Re/Supply store manager. “Our team is excited to build on that commitment by opening the doors of our second REI Re/Supply store and providing our very engaged members access to high-quality outdoor gear at great prices.”

Buying used instead of new typically avoids carbon emissions of 50 percent or more based on REI’s estimate of preparing used gear for sale versus making new gear. REI’s investment in Re/Supply aligns with the co-op’s 2030 climate goals to de-couple business growth from carbon impact.

The co-op offered used outdoor gear to members for more than 60 years through its “garage sale” events at its retail stores.

In 2018, REI innovated within its used business to launch a used-specific e-commerce site, trade-in program and used gear offering for sale in most retail locations.

In 2022, more than 1 million used products were sold through REI’s Re/Supply omnichannel offering. Re/Supply sales in the first half of 2023 are up double digits as compared to the same period in 2022.
