VIM & VIGR Names Nursing Scholarship Recipients

VIM & VIGR, maker of stylish and comfortable compression socks, announced the winners of its third annual nursing scholarship program, Adriana Jones and Emily Huggard. Each scholarship recipient will receive an award of $6,735.

In 2022, Jones (left) received her nursing degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., and is a psychiatric nurse. Jones will use her scholarship to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing degree to become a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with a focus on patients suffering from mental illnesses including depression, anxiety and/or psychosis.

“I dream of working as a nurse practitioner in mental health settings in order to prescribe medications that help patients overcome psychiatric illness,” said Jones. “My ultimate goal is to make mental health care more accessible to low-income members of my community. I am so excited to be on a path that allows me to carry out my life’s purpose, which is to foster the mental health of others and to support patients in their lowest moments.”

Huggard’s (right) passion for helping others began during her youth attending, and later volunteering, at Camp Boggy Creek, a SeriousFun Camp for seriously ill children founded by Paul Newman.

“I will earn a BSN in acute nursing, then work on a PNP-AC degree,” said Huggard. “Having had a heart condition since birth, I look forward to being a pediatric RN in a children’s hospital where I can provide support and compassion to seriously ill children.”

She graduates from Jacksonville (Fla.) University Keigwin Nursing School with a BSN in 2025.

“Resiliency, hope and heart are just a few words that come to mind when we think about nurses,” said Michelle Huie, founder of VIM & VIGR. “Especially these nurses. Adriana and Emily are compassionate, empathic women that represent the future of public healthcare, and we are proud to assist them on their academic journeys.”

VIM & VIGR’s 2024 nursing scholarship application window will open in the second quarter of 2024. For more information on the annual nursing scholarship, visit https://vimvigr.com/pages/vim-vigr-nursing-scholarship.
