Race Registration Open for GORE-TEX Kahtoola Uphill Event

After a virtual event in 2021, Kahtoola, creator of MICROspikes, EXOspikes and NANOspikes brand traction and performance-driven gaiters, announced registration is open for its 15th annual, in-person Uphill event.

Scheduled for Saturday Feb. 12, 2022, the event challenges racers to tackle Arizona Snowbowl’s mountainous slopes on foot and will follow COVID-19 protocols to ensure a safe, fun and family-friendly day. All race and raffle proceeds benefit the youth environmental education programs at Arizona-based nonprofit Friends of Camp Colton.

“Camp Colton’s 50-year legacy of discovery, adventure, learning and friendship is a cause that’s near and dear to our hearts, and we have high hopes that the event will be a huge fundraising success,” said Danny Giovale, founder and owner of Kahtoola.

Early birds can register through December 29, to save $15. Registration is open to all ages and will remain active until February 12, or whenever the race is sold out. Participants can race individually or as a team of four with fundraising incentives for all racers.

Fundraising and direct donations can be made via the event’s website.

Costumes are encouraged and race categories range from the easy Fun Climb, to the more challenging Midway or the Lumberyard Brewing Company Agassiz Climbs. All elevation gain must be human powered, with racers on foot (use of spikes, skis and snowshoes allowed). New for 2022, a non-binary category has been added to event registration.

Post-race, participants and spectators are invited to enjoy food and festivities at the Arizona Snowbowl’s Fremont Restaurant & Bar, the event’s start/finish location. Toasty outdoor heaters and fire pits will be available for outside enjoyment.

To-date, the GORE-TEX Kahtoola Uphill event has raised more than $450,000 to help kids experience life-changing times in nature. For more information on Friends of Camp Colton, contact Ari Wilder at ari@friendsofcampcolton.org or call 928-527-6142.
