Outdoor Research, Dovetail Workwear Provide Working Women’s Needs

Two Pacific Northwest brands, Outdoor Research and Dovetail Workwear have teamed to create a collection of outdoor accessories built to support outdoor enthusiasts and working women in occupations where durability and performance cannot be compromised.

The collaboration is a natural partnership that evolved out of the relationship between two women-led product teams focused on leading the way in functional women’s apparel and accessories through dynamic design, inclusive sizing and durable constructions.

“At Outdoor Research, we’re focused on serving the needs of female athletes of all shapes and sizes and outfitting them in products that fit well, stand up to rough terrain, and help protect from extreme conditions across a wide spectrum of activities,” said Kat Schoewe, senior creative design director at Outdoor Research. “From the moment we met the Dovetail team — and learned more about their commitment to outfitting real women, from bike mechanics and construction workers to artist and firefighters — it was clear we had to join forces, amplify our voices, and work toward creating a set of products that are unique in the market.”

For Spring 2022, Outdoor Research and Dovetail Workwear launch a co-branded collection of accessories designed to protect and perform through a variety of outdoor activities and endeavors from landscaping and gardening to backpacking, hiking or trail work:

  • The Outdoor Research X Dovetail Field Hatis built for harsh environments and demanding tasks. Its wide, UPF 50-plus sun-protective brim and ultralight neck cape cover the ears, neck, and shoulders protecting them from harsh UV rays. A durable yet comfortable blend of cotton and CORDURA resists abrasions and guards from debris or brush.
  • The women’s specific Outdoor Research X Dovetail Leather Field Gloves are designed for durability and fit in the field. The outer material and palm employ weather-resistant goat leather, with suede overlays at the palm and double stitching at crucial wear points for increased reinforcement.
  • Designed for the demands of manual field labor, the Outdoor Research X Dovetail Field Gaiters use alternating panels of Ventia waterproof protection at the upper leg paired with a rugged, abrasion-resistant 420D pack cloth at the lower leg where durability is at a premium. A back stretch panel infused with spandex to facilitate calf stretch provides superior mobility.

In creating the collection, Outdoor Research and Dovetail worked with their respective wear testers, like farmer Emily Thompson, wildlife photographer Melissa Groo, and geology enthusiast Alison Cole to ensure the form, fit and function of each design would meet the needs of working women active in the field.
