Outdoor Associations Partner to Expand Reach, Deliver New Benefits

The Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) and Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) are partnering to expand their respective reach, open new channels of communication for their membership, and advocate on behalf of the people who have dedicated their careers to the outdoor industry.

The new partnership seeks to capitalize on the organizations’ aligning missions. As America’s leading coalition of outdoor recreation trade associations and organizations, ORR works to promote the growth of the outdoor recreation economy and outdoor recreation activities. As one of the oldest organizations of outdoor communicators, OWAA works to provide professional development opportunities for its members, while encouraging public enjoyment and conservation of natural resources, and mentoring the next generation of professional outdoor communicators.

The mutually beneficial partnership will allow ORR to easily communicate important industry updates and information on behalf of its membership of 33 outdoor associations—and counting— to OWAA’s more than 630 outdoor media members which include outdoor writers, photographers, videographers, podcasters, digital publishers and communication professionals.

“Our industry is great at marketing products and activities to outdoor recreationists, but that is only half the battle – we need to communicate better with all Americans who enjoy the outdoors to more effectively highlight important outdoor issues and the responsibilities that come with enjoying the outdoors,” said Jessica Turner, executive director of ORR. “Our new partnership with OWAA opens up a whole new world of communication opportunities and relationships to help us further our message – we can’t wait to get started.”

OWAA will be able to continue to expand its reach across a broader array of outdoor industry segments and media – opening its members to a whole new network of resources, story opportunities, and industry and policy updates.

“We’ve really made some great strides recently to embrace more sides of the incredibly varied outdoor recreation industry,” noted OWAA President Pat Wray. “This partnership with ORR is a giant leap forward in that initiative and we’re just thrilled to get to work with their team and their members.”

Finally, as part of the partnership OWAA was recently welcomed as ORR’s newest outdoor industry association member while ORR also joins OWAA as a ‘Supporting Group’, along with the following ORR members:

  • Motorcycle Industry Council
  • National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds
  • National Marine Manufacturers Association
  • Outdoor Industry Association
  • RV Industry Association
  • Specialty Equipment Market Association
