Geartrade Donates to Support Reproductive Rights, Women’s Advocacy Groups

Geartrade, the UnNew marketplace, donated $2,000 from Independence Day weekend sales to reproductive rights and women’s advocacy groups, prompted by last month’s U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Geartrade, based in Utah, sees the direct effect of the Supreme Court decision in its backyard and is working to better align its love for the unmatched mountains, deserts, and outdoor spaces of the state with participation in the local political landscape.

Donations went to The Center for Reproductive Rights; Planned Parenthood; The League of Women Voters; and SheJumps.

The donation commitment was based on a percentage of total sales over the holiday weekend and was announced to the community on July 1 via newsletter, social media and the Geartrade blog.

“By ensuring all people have access to the care and resources they need to make informed decisions about their bodies, protecting and expanding voting rights to ensure everyone is represented in our democracy, inspiring and building a community of confident leaders, and helping more women and girls feel like they belong in the outdoors, we believe these organizations embody the change and opportunity that makes us proud to call America home,” said Geartrade.com in an email announcement of the commitment to their membership.

Geartrade also opened the door to conversations with other businesses and individuals, encouraging them to reach out with their input to hello@geartrade.com.

“We know this was an initial step in a long journey, but we also know it was the right way for us to express our immediate support for equality and choice,” said Aaron Provine, president of Geartrade.com.

Geartrade is one of many outdoor industry businesses located in Utah and would like to hear from other brands and individuals who are looking for ways to move forward. If that’s you or if you know of someone, reach out to hello@geartrade.com.
