Atomic Announces Global Partnership with Protect Our Winters

Ski equipment manufacturer Atomic has released its first Climate Impact Statement and announced a global partnership with Protect Our Winters (POW) for 2023. The report details the company’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact through the transformation of its value chain and the development of a sustainable product portfolio.

The partnership with POW, which works to raise awareness about the impact of climate change on winter sports and to advocate for political action, will allow Atomic and POW to amplify their respective voices in the fight against climate change.

Atomic’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in its technical and science-based approach to designing, developing, and manufacturing skiing equipment.

Atomic’s parent company, Amer Sports, owns and operates large, advanced skiing hardgoods facilities. To address the impact of its business operations Atomic has committed to the science-based target initiative, pledging to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50 percent by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050.

To achieve these goals, the company has implemented a strategy based on three pillars: transforming the value chain, innovating for sustainable performance, and collaborating for mass movement.

For many brands, manufacturing is something that happens on the other side of the world. But for Atomic manufacturing is a key advantage. From energy efficiency to material use, the company controls every step of the production process. By experimenting with new ways of reducing impact, Atomic strives to create the world’s most sustainable ski and boot production.

At Atomic impact reduction is not a performance inhibitor, it’s a performance driver. By making sure every component in every product serves a performance-driven purpose, the brand’s R&D department will cut down on waste whilst developing better performing skis and boots.

A single brand cannot tackle the climate crisis alone. Atomic seeks to galvanize a network of actors who share the goal of stabilizing the climate. From sponsored athletes to industry competitors, local resorts to national governments, material suppliers to retailers, all stakeholders need the sport of skiing to thrive.

As a first step Atomic’s partnership with Protect Our Winters will work towards a Winter Industry Climate Summit for hardware brands. This event will take place in 2023 and aims to unite the winter sports equipment industry to collaborate on climate impact reduction through recycling projects, material innovation and common standards.
