1% for the Planet to Host Annual Global Summit in Los Angeles

1% for the Planet will hold its annual Global Summit at The Garland in North Hollywood, California March 31 through April 2, 2020. The three-day gathering is open to 1% for the Planet business and individual members and features many speakers and key players in the environmental movement.

With the event theme of Turning Points, the agenda explores topics including the growing climate crisis, environmental justice issues, the 2020 election and the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. Members will also examine how to go beyond their 1% giving commitment to incorporate other sustainable business practices and how to maximize their membership, said the group. Speakers will include Patagonia and 1% for the Planet founder, Yvon Chouinard, as well as professional climber and star of the documentary Free Solo, Alex Honnold.

“We’re a growing, diversifying network, accomplishing a lot together. And what I love most about our movement is that we’re not satisfied with this,” said 1% for the Planet CEO, Kate Williams. “We know that our planet still needs our best attention, and we come together to respond and to lead.”

As part of the Summit, 1% for the Planet will recognize select members and nonprofit partners that have gone above and beyond for the environment in 2019 through its second annual People for the Planet Awards. “Our purpose in giving out these awards is not to single out solo performers, but rather to celebrate members who exemplify shared values and attributes that make our movement stronger and that illuminate the path for others to follow,” explained Williams.
