Salewa Recalls Alp Trainer 2 Mid GTX Hiking Boots

Salewa has recalled voluntarily its men’s and women’s Alp Trainer 2 Mid GTX Hiking Boots manufactured before April 2022, because of a fall hazard. Boots in the line made after April are not included in the recall, which is effective in Canada and the United States.

According to a recall notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission if the AT2 Boots are laced loosely or untied, unlaced at the ankle support of the boot, not laced through the eyelet, or the lace hooks are left unlaced, etc., it is unlikely but possible the lace hook on the inside of one boot can catch on a loose cable on the inside of the other boot, posing tripping and/or fall hazard and risk of injury to the consumer.

Dealers should stop selling the recalled AT2 Boots immediately and consumers should stop using them. Dealers and consumers should return all Recalled AT2 Boots directly to Salewa for replacement with the Fall 22 AT2 Boots or comparable Salewa product.

To contact Salewa toll-free call 844-412-7013 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (MT) Monday through Friday, email at AlpTrainer2@salewa.com or online at www.salewa.com/en-us/ and click on “Alp Trainer 2 Mid GTX Voluntary Recall” for more information.

Recalled AT2 Boots can be identified by the production date on the inside of the tongue label of the boot. The production date on the label starts with an “FS”. The numbers on the label indicate the year and month of production as follows: the first number is the last number of the year of production and the second number designates the month of production. Thus, e.g., FS 2-04 designates a production date of April 2022.

All AT2 Boots with production dates FS 1-xx, FS 2-01, FS 2-02, and FS 2-03 are subject to recall. For AT2 Boots with production date FS 2-04, only men’s AT2 Boots in black/black are subject to recall. All AT2 Boots with production dates starting with FS 2-04 and later (e.g., FS 2-05, 2-06, etc.) are not subject recall (except as to men’s AT2 Boots in black/black) (the Fall 22 AT2 Boots).

The Fall 22 AT2 Boots can be distinguished from the Recalled AT2 Boots by examining the sides of the boots: the Fall 22 AT2 Boots have a covered cable and different lacing point (15mm or 1.5 cm closer to the tongue) than the Recalled AT2 Boots.

The boots are sold at: SAIL, MEC, Ascent Outdoors, Moosejaw and other specialty outdoor stores and online at Backcountry, Zappos, and Outland USA.
