The Running Event Opens Doors to North American Race Directors

When 2,500 running industry professionals convene in Austin Nov. 27-30 for North America’s largest specialty running conference and expo, many will be race directors seeking to learn how to promote a greener, more popular, more successful running competition.

Diversified Communications, organizers of 13th annual The Running Event, announce TRE will feature seminars, networking opportunities and fun runs designed to help race directors up their game.

“Race directors are an integral part of the running business,” said Christina Henderson, event manager. “Welcoming race directors to TRE recognizes their important role in creating new runners or obstacle racers, driving business into specialty stores, and influencing the sale of running-related products and services. Whatever TRE can do to increase their proficiency benefits us all.”

A separate Race Directors registration package for $195 includes all conference sessions and keynote presentations, plus these highlights:

November 27: Opening night reception.

November 28: Athlinks Services is creating special content at TRE titled, “Creating the Perfect Athlete Experience,” that will advise retailers who want to become race directors and budding race directors just starting out in the events business.

Other Wednesday educational sessions of particular interest to race directors are: “How to Green Your Race” by Recover Brands; “Modern Marketing for Races” by Tim and Jessica Murphy; and admission to the BibRave 100 Award Luncheon – the definitive recognition of the Best Races in America.

That evening, race directors can participate in The North Face High Visibility Night Run.

November 29: Entry in the Indie 5K at its new location at Austin’s historic Hancock Golf Course. The race will begin at 6:30 a.m., followed by a light breakfast and displays of new running apparel and accessories. Race directors can reserve a bib during the registration process before the event or sign up at the Athlinks desk in the Austin Convention Center lobby on Nov. 27 and 28. Or, if preferred, race directors can go behind-the-scenes to learn how Athlinks manages this popular TRE competition.

Race directors also gain access to the 260 exhibitors in the TRE Expo, open Nov. 28 from 3 to 7 p.m., Nov. 29, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 30. Educational presentations on the show floor of interest to race directors include the Trailhead and Sportstyle Select presentations.

TRE is North America’s largest running specialty trade convention, attracting 2,500 industry professionals who convene in the Texas capital to buy the latest in running footwear, apparel, gear and services from an estimated 260 exhibitors.
