Rab Equipment – a firm that develops outdoor gear and apparel while focused on sustainability and environmental awareness – was named an official sponsor of The Alpine Club of Canada (ACC). This nonprofit in particular has a rich heritage rooted in exploring and preserving Canada’s mountainous regions.
Founded in 1906, The Alpine Club of Canada operates the largest network of backcountry huts in North America, with a hut network that runs year-round with a variety of destinations suitable for users with different skill levels. The ACC’s hut network includes 26 user-maintained spots across Canada in alpine meadows, backcountry powder paradise and remote climber refuges. This includes the Neil Colgan Hut, which at 9,700 feet above sea level is the highest, habitable structure in Canada.
The Alpine Club of Canada’s hut network includes reservation systems, regular maintenance, improvements and custodians who travel to meet guest needs. Rab’s sponsorship funding will go directly into hut operations, including improvements to the booking systems, office personnel and maintenance staff.
“As an outdoor technical brand, it’s an honor for Rab to support the iconic ACC hut network,” said Robert Brunet, Rab Canada country manager. “The ACC has worked tirelessly for more than 100 years to provide adventurers with a shared, rustic experience in one of the most beautiful countries on Earth. Rab’s roots have always been in exploration and adventure, and we are committed to growing our community of mountain people. We are thrilled to work with the ACC and show people what the mountains of Canada have to offer.”
Founded in Sheffield, England in 1981 by mountaineer Rab Carrington, Rab provides rugged, high-performance mountain clothing and equipment. Over the past four decades, it has drawn inspiration from the untamed spirit of the mountains, the friendships climbers forge on the peak and one enduring mission: awakening the climber in everyone and equipping them for the ascent.
“The ACC is extremely excited about welcoming Rab as the official partner of the club’s hut network,” said Keith Haberl, ACC marketing director. “With Rab’s help, the ACC will continue to improve and upgrade our hut system, both in the office and in the field.”
