Osprey Packs Expands Colorado HQ, to Open Utah DC

Osprey Packs announced the expansion of the company’s headquarters in Cortez, Colo., as the brand readies for the opening of its new distribution center in Ogden, Utah.

Fourteen new positions will be added to Osprey’s Cortez headquarters in 2015 including increases to the Sales, Marketing, Quality & Returns and IT departments. Additionally, Mike Pfotenhauer and Diane Wren, founders of Osprey Packs, recently relocated back to Cortez from California to be closer to the company at the brand’s headquarters.

Osprey’s decided to locate a new Distribution Center in Ogden to be near the national rail network, allowing the company to better fulfill shipments to the brand’s retailer base and reduce its carbon footprint. It also places distribution in a transportation hub while focusing most other company functions in Colorado. The company currently receives and distributes by overland truck.

“This is an exciting time for Osprey,” said Tom Barney, CEO of Osprey Packs. “We just concluded our 40th anniversary year where we enjoyed double-digit sales growth and started several important initiatives, including expanding to our new distribution facility in Ogden and a further commitment to Cortez as our world headquarters.”

This change also addresses the office space constraints Osprey has faced in recent years requiring the company to patch together several smaller facilities. By contrast, Osprey’s enhanced headquarters in Cortez streamlines the organization with headquarters in one facility in Colorado and a single distribution center in Utah. The new Ogden DC is set to open mid-April with a staff of 23.
