DICK’S to Acquire Moosejaw

DICK’S Sporting Goods announced it will acquire Moosejaw from Walmart. The acquisition is expected to be finalized in March. Terms of the deal were not announced. With the acquisition, the mainstream sports-focused DICK’S figures to expand its outdoor sports portfolio, which focuses on its 2021-launched Public Lands stores.

“We admire what Moosejaw has accomplished over the past 30 years as leaders in the outdoor industry and look forward to the opportunity to share insights and learn from one another,” said Todd Spaletto, president of public lands and SVP of DICK’S Sporting Goods. “We believe there’s potential to grow the Moosejaw business and provide compelling experiences and an expanded product assortment to its millions of loyal customers.”

Moosejaw was founded in 1992. Popular for its e-commerce platform, it also operates brick-and-mortar locations in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, and Missouri. The company launched an online used-gear program last February.

Walmart acquired Moosejaw in February 2017. By 2018, Moosejaw CEO Eoin Comerford had led an initiative to start an online store on Walmart’s website under his company’s product vertical. Moosejaw’s Arkansas store is located in Bentonville, Walmart’s headquarters, and opened in 2021.

Comerford will report directly to Spaletto once the acquisition becomes final.
