Cycle-Con Opens Doors for Riders, Retailers, Brands

Cycle-Con the largest gathering of its kind in the Americas, is set for Oct. 7-9 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Dayton, Ohio. And the even is no longer just for recumbents.

The trade and consumer show – formerly known as Recumbent Cycle-Con –  is back, and while it continues to be the preeminent gathering of the recumbent, trike and adaptive cycling communities, the event will be more open to the conventional cycling community.

Cycle-Con is an experiential, demo-driven event, with a half-mile paved and gravel demo loop. Beyond the demo track, Ohio’s Miami Valley offers more than 340 miles of paved recreational paths for riders.

The first day is industry-focused, reserved for vendors and retailers while Saturday and Sunday are open to the public.

“Cutting edge cycling brands and retailers are realizing there’s a whole new customer out there,” said Mark Crews, CEO of WizWheelz, which acquired Recumbent Cycle-Con in June 2022. “We hear time and time again that people are intimidated to go into a bike shop. These people just want to get out and have fun, and they’re willing to invest in the right solution.”

The new Cycle-Con takes away barriers by welcoming an array of pedal-powered products. While Cycle-Con continues to be the largest assembly of recumbent brands, the goal is to show a wider range of people a bigger picture of what cycling can be.

“We want to welcome more people with various cycling interests and at the same time expose them to recumbents and trikes,” said Crews. “Recumbents and trikes might be something they’ve never considered before for themselves, or for a loved one.”

The recumbent and trike industry has seen steady growth even during down years for the two-wheel/upright industry, as more people continue to discover the joy of the pain-free riding experience offered by trikes and recumbents in general.
