AKASO Names Sales, Marketing Lead for North America

AKASO, a global leader in the action camera and outdoor electronics category, has hired John Evans to head up its sales and marketing efforts in North America.

With more than 25 years’ experience in building international brands like Petzl and Grivel, combined with his photographic acumen, Evans is a natural fit for the post.

“John is proven at bringing great international brands to life and he’s also adept at working cross culturally”, said Zack Zhang, AKASO’s Director of Global Business Growth. ”It’s also important to AKASO that he is known and trusted in the Outdoor Industry.”

Previously, Evans spent 16 years at the helm of Petzl America’s marketing pursuits. Along with organizing many large industry events and fundraisers like Petzl’s Roc Trip, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Access Fund and is a two-time HERA Women’s Ovarian Cancer Foundation “Power of One” award recipient.

Most recently, Evans oversaw SMC’s successful acquisition of the Omega Pacific’s carabiner production line – now under the “Force” brand.

“John got his start working as a salesperson at an independent retailer”, Zhang said, “And it is these core retailers where we want to focus our energy. The closer we can be to the end user, the better. His initial task will be to assemble a first-class customer service team, rep force, and ambassador program.”

Evans said, “Obviously, this is the sort of brand building opportunity that is too good to pass up. For me, this post is more than about just driving sales, but it’s a chance to help create a corporate culture that’s a positive force in the outdoor community, whether it pertains to sustainability, inclusion, or conservation.”

AKASO’s North American headquarters is based in Frederic, Maryland, with additional offices and warehousing in California, Evans will remain based out of Bellingham Washington.
