Outdoor Sports Marketing Hires Sales Trainer

Rep agency Outdoor Sports Marketing (OSM) has hired Gaston Farmer, who formerly managed Rock/Creek Outfitters flagship store in Chattanooga, Tenn., as its national account sales trainer. Farmer is already working with retail staff across OSM’s territory to build their confidence and credibility for consumer interaction.

“We are extremely pleased to have Gaston on our team,” said Nolan Davis, co-owner of OSM. “He is a natural fit. He sets a high standard in terms of work ethic, user credibility, and product knowledge.”

Based in Henderson, NC, OSM represents Vasque, Therm-A-Rest, Osprey, SealLine, Chaco, Platypus, MSR, Smartwool and PackTowl in 11 Southeastern states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the Caribbean.

Farmer began working in specialty outdoor retail five years ago at Rock/Creek Outfitters in Chattanooga, Tenn, where he ultimately managed Rock/Creek’s flagship location and mentored new floor staff.

“I started as a retail sales associate, folding shirts, geeking out on new technology, and learning to make connections with customers,” said Farmer. “I was looking to grow as a person and within the company.”

The experience gives him a solid foundation for success in independent sales, said Outdoor Sports Marketing Co-owner Rion Smith.

“He recognizes there is a special connection that occurs when a person is sharing information, whether product based knowledge or experience based,” said Smith. “Regardless, it is a shared experience at the intersection of passion and product.”
