Protective eyewear provider Wiley X again pledged its support for The Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation (WBWF)’s Annual American Hero Event. As a silver sponsor, Wiley X donated 100 pairs of premium eyewear to help honor and empower veterans through the therapeutic power of nature.
Held in Virginia each Fall, this event welcomes 80 veterans for a day of outdoor recreation, including clay shooting, archery and fellowship. The American Hero Event underscores the Foundation’s mission to provide therapeutic outdoor experiences for those who have served our country.
The WBWF is dedicated to conserving America’s land and wildlife through environmental stewardship and education. The foundation focuses on land conservation, supporting military readiness, veteran outreach and youth education, while engaging in special projects such as wildlife enforcement and archaeological explorations. WBWF works to promote sustainability, connect people with nature and ensure the protection of natural resources for future generations.
It was established in 1996 by Ward Burton, a former NASCAR driver turned conservationist. Key WBWF initiatives include:
- WBWF helps conserve over 45,000 acres in Virginia and Pennsylvania, focusing on endangered species habitat, sustainable forestry and water management.
- In partnership with the Department of Defense, WBWF helps create buffers around military installations to protect training lands and promote land conservation.
- The foundation hosts therapeutic outdoor activities such as fishing and hiking for veterans, partnering with organizations such as the USO and Wounded Warrior Project.
- The WBWF provides educational programs that engage youth in outdoor activities, fostering environmental stewardship.
- The foundation supports wildlife enforcement and archaeological explorations, enhancing public education about conservation and history.
