Therm-a-Rest’s Marson Retires After 31 Years

Therm-a-Rest senior product developer Jim Marson announced that he will retire at the end of this year. After more than three decades with Therm-a-Rest’s product development team, Marson’s career and achievements make him a Therm-a-Rest icon and key innovator of modern outdoor recreation gear that not only helped cement Therm-a-Rest as an industry leader but also lead product advancement in the outdoor industry, said the company.

During his tenure with Therm-a-Rest, Marson was responsible for several groundbreaking innovations in the camping mattress category, including the iconic NeoAir mattresses and  Z-Litemattresses.

“When an individual pours so much of their soul into their work, they become part of the brands DNA,” said Erik Flink, Therm-a-Rest vice president. “Jim’s fingerprints are all over so many of the projects that have defined Therm-a-Rest and helped us retain market leadership for decades. His creativity and wisdom will be missed not only by the product development team, but by the entire Cascade Designs family.”

Since beginning his career with the company in 1987, Marson has served in various roles including engineering technician, engineering designer, product development specialist, product developer (research & development), and most recently senior product developer (research & development).

Upon retirement, Marson is looking forward to doing lots of traveling, hiking and camping with a robust stash of Cascade Designs gear.

“I am so thankful for my time at Therm-a-Rest and the talented community I worked with,” said Marson. “My work at Therm-a-Rest was more than a job, it was a passion, and I can’t wait to start spending more time outside sleeping under the stars on my Therm-a-Rest pad.”
