Anna Peterson, the executive director of The Mountain Pact released a statement today in reaction to Doug Burgum’s confirmation as Secretary of the Interior:
“At The Mountain Pact, we know that America’s public lands are at the heart of our Western communities. The Interior Department plays a key role in protecting these treasured landscapes that are vital for the health of our people, our outdoor recreation and agricultural economies, and our outdoor way of life. We hope that Secretary Burgum takes his role in defending our public lands seriously in a pragmatic, forward-looking, climate-friendly way that responsibly protects our cherished landscapes as well as the wildlife and communities that depend on them. We also hope he continues the important work former secretary Haaland spearheaded in expanding our national monuments, increasing Tribal partnership and co-stewardship agreements, and defending our shared environment so that all Americans can continue to benefit from our public lands for generations to come.”
Founded in 2014, The Mountain Pact mobilizes local elected officials in over 100 Western mountain communities in the U.S. with outdoor recreation-based economies to speak with a collective voice on federal climate, public lands and outdoor recreation policy.
