The Mann Group Takes Retailers to School

Earning a college degree takes years, but in three days store managers can get a top-notch education at Mann University, The Mann Group’s new training program for the outdoor, cycling and running industries. Mann University’s course of study is focused on “graduating” managers so they are better qualified to drive performance and profitability through leadership at their stores.

Held in Asheville, N.C., the first Mann University session runs July 22 – 24, with three additional sessions scheduled throughout 2013.

In the past 10 years, over 750 retailers and manufacturers in the outdoor industry have benefited from the Mann Group’s specialized training and consulting. With that wealth of expertise, the Mann Group has developed a five-module curriculum designed to foster long-term store growth and profitability. Leading with Impact, Strategic Leadership for Results, and Motivate and Lead as a Player/Coach are among the courses offered. The Confident Communicator – a two-hour session – covers effective listening and obstacles to effective communication. Leading Change and Team Building – a three-hour session – delves into the role of store manager as team builder, covering topics such as recruitment and performance management.

“There are unique challenges for managers in the specialty retail world,” says Mark Bastin, The Mann Group’s Chief Marketing Officer. “Mann University is a rare opportunity for these professionals to learn together and exchange insight and tactics in a focused setting. We believe it’s one of the best investments a store can make, not only for its team, but for its future.”

Time to get outdoors and have fun in the Blue Ridge Mountains is built in to each Mann U session. With the Nantahala River, Tsali Recreation Area and Blue Ridge Parkway close by, Mann University students can play hard after working hard in their course sessions.

Mann University courses are limited to 20 students. Meals, hotel rooms, activity fees and airport transfers are included in the $3500 course fee. In addition to the inaugural session, Mann University is scheduled to meet August 12 – 14, October 7 – 9, and November 11 – 13.
