SewSporty, a U.S.-based athletic apparel manufacturer, has acquired Colorado-based Stonewear from Great Trango Holdings. Stonewear produces premium USA-made performance lifestyle apparel for active female consumer, and its acquisition by SewSporty expands the privately held athletic apparel manufacturer’s presence in the women’s performance lifestyle category.
“Stonewear has established strong market share and we believe the brand has potential to further maximize results with a dedicated manufacturing partner,” says Michael Gilstrap, president and CEO with SewSporty. “It’s a natural fit given the capacity of our facility in Vista, Calif., which enables Stonewear to continue manufacturing in the USA.”
Stonewear was founded in 1996 in Boulder, Colo., and was acquired by Great Trango Holdings, Inc., a family of privately held climbing brands, in 2001. “Activewear is a complex market with numerous players,” adds Chris Klinke, president of GTHI. “Stonewear requires a dedicated apparel manufacturer to take the brand to the next level, and given our history working together on the manufacturing side, we are confident SewSporty is the best choice.”
