Salt Life Announces Partnership With United Row

Salt Life, the performance and lifestyle brand for saltwater pursuits, announced its sponsorship of United Row, a rowing team of two best friends attempting to break the world record and become the youngest and fastest pair to row the Pacific Ocean.

Aiming to launch out of Monterey Bay, Calif., in June 2024, Anna McLean and Jenny D’Anthony of United Row plan to row 2,800 nautical miles to Kauai, Hawaii, as part of the Atlantic Campaigns Pacific Challenge. The duo will be exposed to harsh elements, battling 60-foot waves, seasickness, and mental and physical fatigue on their arduous journey. The fully self-supported expedition is expected to take around 60 days.

“Salt Life was created to inspire ocean exploration and appreciation of all kinds, from relaxing beachside to tackling extreme conditions on open water. We are proud to support United Row as they prepare for the salty adventure of a lifetime,” said Jeff Stillwell, President of Salt Life. “These dedicated young women exemplify the highest level of passion for the water, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with them ahead of their 2024 Pacific expedition.”

McLean and D’Anthony have supported each other for years, rowing as teammates on the Clemson University Women’s Varsity Team. From there, they created a bond through their shared love of physical and mental challenges that would propel them to countless mountain summits, spontaneous half-marathons and long days of grueling, type-two fun. Thriving in extreme conditions, the two decided to take on their biggest challenge yet, setting their sights on breaking the record for rowing the Pacific Ocean.

Ocean rowing is nothing new to McLean. In 2019 she completed a world-first row across the Atlantic Ocean with her brother, Cameron. Known as “The Seablings,” the pair accomplished the expedition in 43 days, 15 hours and 22 minutes.

“I have been wearing Salt Life apparel since I was young and am so excited to partner with such a lively, adventure-loving brand as we undergo preparations for our Pacific journey,” McLean said. “Salt Life’s performance apparel fits our colorful, ready-for-anything lifestyle and the encouragement and support from the team has meant the world to us as we work hard to make this dream a reality.”

United Row is passionate about inspiring the next generation of adventurers to pursue their dreams, further their education, challenge themselves in sports and build the skills needed for successful and healthy futures. The pair aims to raise more than $100,000 to benefit Clemson’s Hear her Roar initiative, which propels the future of female student-athletes. Funds raised will provide scholarships, a nationally acclaimed academic experience and training facilities and competition venues ensuring success academically and athletically. Additionally, the program empowers female student-athletes to become leaders in their workplace, family, and community.

“I am exhilarated by the opportunity to test my limits and live my dream alongside my teammate and best friend,” D’Anthony said. “I feel most alive when immersing myself in adventure, nature, and challenge. We are incredibly grateful for Salt Life’s unwavering support as we work towards this monumental goal.”
