Red Dot Recognizes “Best of the Best” for e-Bikes

Red Dot published its 2024 Design Awards for their unique e-bike designs, highlighting outstanding design and product quality.

Winners included the pedelec Stromer ST5 Pinion (Switzerland) and electric gravel bike ROTWILD R.R275 (Germany). The bikes’ designers will each receive a trophy on the stage at an award ceremony at the Aalto Theater in Essen, Germany, June 24.

The Stromer was awarded for best speed, with an average of up to 45 km/h and a stated range of 180 km. This Red Dot noted, makes it perfectly suited for longer city trips or for commuting between home and work.

“Winning this distinction is confirmation that we are getting lots of things
right in the premium segment,” said myStromer product manager, Florian Marti. “That range and power need a correspondingly large battery, which we have integrated seamlessly in the frame. As a consequence, the models have more volume, and the shape of the frame is more like a motorcycle than a traditional bicycle.”

At the same time, the eGravel bike ROTWILD R.R275 X won “Best of
the Best.” This all-terrain bike has a well-conceived design suitable for rough asphalt roads as well as gravel off-road paths.

“We wanted to make a bike that would be unmistakeable in terms of its
design aesthetic”, says Tomas Fiegl, lead designer of the team responsible
for the ROTWILD R.R275 X at ARTEFAKT Design in Darmstadt. “The way the top tube extends visually into the taillight and the cockpit and front light are seamlessly integrated are distinctive design elements that give the bike its dynamic shape. It allowed us to create an unusually elongated silhouette.”

In close pursuit, Red Dot also awarded seven e-bikes for “high design quality,” including:

  • Lotus Cars’ Type 136 [Great Britain]
  • Canyon Bicycles’ Pathlite:ON 6 Superlight [Germany]
  • TENWAYS Technovation’s TENWAYS CGO600 Pro [Netherlands]
  • Orbea’s DIEM [Spain]
  • Shenzhen Fiido Technology Development’s Fiido C31 Carbon Electric Bike [China]
  • i:SY’s Skyfly [Germany]
  • Ahooga’s Max [Belgium]
“In the Red Dot Design Award, we are seeing the market for bicycles
becoming a premium market for e-bikes with high-end specs, and this is
happening across different product segments,” said Peter Zec, the founder of the Red Dot Design Award and CEO of Red Dot. “This is also reflected in the jury’s decision to award the Red Dot: Best of the Best distinction for the best e-bikes in 2024 to the electric gravel bike ROTWILD R.R275 X and the speed pedelec Stromer ST5. These are two exceptionally
high-end bicycles from very different market segments.”
The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s largest and best-known design competitions. Its roots go back to 1954. Every year, it is held in the disciplines, product design, brand and communication design, as well as prototypes and design concepts.
An independent, international jury comprising professors, designers and journalists select the winners, which receive the Red Dot or Red Dot: Best of the Best quality label.
