Mountain Hardwear Pulls Out of Summer Shows

Possibly the first of many such proclamations to come from outdoor brands, Mountain Hardwear announced that it will not be participating in the upcoming Summer 2020 Outdoor Retailer show in June or the Grassroot’s Big Gear Show in July. The brand cited “public health and safety” as the reason for its decision amidst the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and hysteria.

Following is the statement issued by Mountain Hardwear President, Joe Vernachio:

“As we face rapidly changing and uncertain times as both a global community and a brand, public health and safety is our number one priority and guiding light in decision making. As a result, Mountain Hardwear will not attend the upcoming Summer 2020 Outdoor Retailer or GOA Shows. We remain fully supportive of our industry and community but cannot predict if the virus will be mitigated before June. We feel strongly that by attending either conference, we are not only putting our employees’ health and safety at risk, but that of vendors, service workers and attendees as well. We see increasing possibilities and conversations around digital tradeshows and stand in full support of any virtual opportunities to not only connect with our retailers, but to also continue supporting our industry in the safest ways we can. As a brand we resolve to remain fluid, engaged and hopeful as our industry and world navigates these uncharted waters.”
