Several outdoor industry experts gathered during the last week of August in the Wind River Range of Wyoming’s back country to hike, camp, climb, fish and discuss various issues facing the industry. In addition to the recreation and camaraderie, the group had six days to test outdoor products that had been provided them by various manufacturers. Products tested included tents, bags, packs, camp chairs, water filtration units and other camping accessories.
Participants consisted of independent retailers, manufacturer representatives and management, a CPA, and a retail consultant. Industry hot topics discussed “around the campfire” included show-rooming, POS solutions, customer return policies, human resource issues, and inventory control to name a few.
