Implus to Expand N.C. Facility

Implus Corp., reportedly has inked a deal with Liberty Property Trust to build a new industrial facility next to its headquarters on T.W. Alexander Drivein Durham, N.C., as the company gears up expansion of its brands. Construction of the new 136,500-square-foot industrial facility is expected to begin in June and will add 40 percent more distribution and office space for Implus in Durham, according to Greg Stryker, director of marketing at the company.

Implus in May confirmed the sale of majority ownership in the company to the Boston-based investment firm Berkshire Partners. Terms of the deal with Berkshire were not disclosed, but shortly after the acquisition Implus acquired sock maker Belega Socks. Implus also owns the athletic gear lines sold under the brand names Sof Sole, Yaktrax, a para, Airplus, Sneaker Balls, Sof Comfort, Little Hotties and more. Implus currently employs 360 people nationwide with more than 300 of those employees based at its Durham campus.

Liberty Property Trust did not disclose the terms of its lease deal for the new, LEED-certified industrial building except to state that it was a “long-term” contract. Liberty is the owner and developer of the proposed 36-acre Libery Ridge industrial park in east Durham on the edge of Research Triangle Park.
