Green Trails Maps, Mountaineers Books Announce Partnership

Two Northwest outdoor community members with long, reliable histories of providing high quality products and support to hikers, climbers, bikers, and adventurers in the Pacific Northwest and beyond are joining forces.

Mountaineers Books, the nearly 60-year old outdoor book publisher, will become the fulfillment portal for Green Trails Maps, the nearly 50-year old backcountry map maker and publisher. Green Trails’ 150+ map titles will now be available through all of Mountaineers Books’ many marketing and sales channels beginning October 1, 2019. Green Trails Maps will continue to be available at more than 550 outdoor retailers in the West as well as online, at greentrailsmaps.com.

Alan Coburn, president and CEO of Green Trails Maps, and Gail Coburn, vice president for corporate strategy, expressed their excited for the agreement.

“As we approached retirement, we were looking for a robust partner with corporate values similar to ours to continue the stewardship Gail and I undertook over 25 years ago when we bought the company from founder, Walter Locke. Mountaineers Books’ 60-year track record of growth for books is the logical place to hand over ongoing stewardship of the Green Trails 150+ titles and brand,” Coburn said.

Helen Cherullo, Mountaineers Books Publisher, sees a strong overlap in the mission and audience of the two organizations: “With our guidebooks and Green Trails Maps, we look forward to motivating more outdoor enthusiasts to get out on the trails—for adventure, as well as inspiring the next generation of stewards of our public lands.”
