The Conservation Alliance Hosts Successful Backyard Collective Event

More than 250 volunteers from nine member companies participated in The Conservation Alliance’s Backyard Collective stewardship event in Portland, Ore. on Thursday, August 9, 2018. The volunteers worked in support of Forest Park Conservancy, Hoyt Arboretum, Portland Parks Foundation, SOLVE, and Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District to clean up, fix up and tend to parks and trails throughout the Portland metro area.

Conservation Alliance member companies Arc’teryx, Columbia, Deschutes Brewery, Greenspace, KEEN, Nau, Notogroup, Trail Butter, and Yakima participated in the event. Member companies Clif Bar provided bars, Columbia provided lunch, and Deschutes Brewery donated beer to the event.

The mission of The Conservation Alliance is to engage businesses to fund and partner with organizations to protect wild places for their habitat and recreation values. The Conservation Alliance launched the Backyard Collective Program to give member company employees in the outdoor industry the opportunity to work together on a local stewardship project while learning more about organizations that receive funding from the group.

Conservation Alliance grantees Friends of the Columbia Gorge, Oregon Wild, Waterwatch of Oregon, Western Rivers Conservancy, Wild Salmon Center and non-profit partners Forest Park Conservancy, Portland Parks Foundation, and Solve joined in a Conservation and Grantee Fair to share current information and call-to-action about their program.
“There is a large network of Conservation Alliance member companies in the Portland area who prioritize volunteering and stewardship,” said John Sterling, executive director of The Conservation Alliance. “Together these companies are having a positive impact locally, while protecting wild places across North America through their Conservation Alliance membership.”
