Benchmade Bugout Receives New Material Options

Benchmade’s Bugout model has received a handful of new material options through the Custom Knife Builder program. The materials unlock this model’s every day carry potential, whether that is hiking mountain, traversing a city center or something a bit more expeditionary.

Don’t let the lightweight nature fool you, there is nothing fragile about the Bugout – it’s the perfect folder without the weight penalty that may cause some folks to leave a knife at home.

On top of the existing options (thumb studs, liners, etc.) enthusiasts are able to option up to titanium or carbon fiber handles and a S90V or Damasteel Ladder patterned blade. With the new materials, there are now 497,760 different combinations that could be created. Ranging in price from $175 -$525.

The Benchmade Bugout originally was designed as the ultimate lightweight folder for backpacking. The slim and minimalist design proved to be an absolute game-changer for the outdoor community, but quickly earned its place as one of the best everyday carry models on the market.

Benchmade added the Bugout to its Custom Knife Builder program in August 2020, allowing anyone the ability to create a one-of-a-kind combination of materials to best fit their needs and aesthetics.

Almost a year later, the addition of new premium materials demonstrates Benchmade’s commitment to continued innovation and its determination to stay at the technological forefront of the industry.

The Benchmade Custom Knife Builder is an easy-to-use online, interactive visualizer that displays a 3D rendering of selected materials, including full 360-degree rotations. Laser marking on both sides of the blade is also possible through this system, creating an opportunity for even more personalization.

Every Benchmade knife is hand-assembled at Benchmade’s factory in Oregon City, Oregon. The knives American made with American steel (other than the Swedish Damasteel) and American-made components. Models from the Custom Knife Builder are no different.
