AmericanFlags.com Urges Consumers to Buy American-Made Flags this Flag Day

As our nation celebrates Flag Day and other upcoming patriotic holidays, AmericanFlags.com is urging consumers to display high quality U.S. flags that are made in America and labeled as such. That’s because about $4 million worth of flags are imported annually into the U.S. with about 95 percent coming from China.

“Most are not labeled as such and are made with inferior materials, threads and dyes that fade, weather and tear quickly,” says AmericanFlags.com

“If anything should be made in America, it’s the American flag,” said AmericanFlags.com President/CEO Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds, “and consumers should look for that ‘Made in USA’ label before making a purchase.”

Federal law requires country of origin labeling on most flags and in 2014, federal lawmakers passed legislation allowing the U.S. Department of Defense to buy only American-made flags for our nation’s armed forces. Several states, including Florida, have imposed flag-buying guidelines for their government agencies and such legislation is pending in about a dozen other states, including New York.

“While nothing could compare to the demand for American flags we saw in the days, weeks and months following 9/11,” says Dr. Reynolds, “our company has seen a steady increase in flag sales and so far this year, demand is up more than 20 percent, probably due to the Presidential campaigns.”
