A+D, AAG, Templa Biodegradable Jacket Collab Wins ISPO Award

ALLIED Feather + Down (AF+D) – which provides high-performance, ethically sourced, recycled down – partnered with performance wear manufacturer Active Apparel Group (AAG) and luxury outdoor performance brand Templa to announce that the new, 99+ percent biodegradable down puffy jacket collaboration is a 2024 ISPO Award winner.

Made with biodegradable 800-fill, power-down insulation, combined with biodegradable synthetic fabrics, trims sourced by AAG and Templa performance silhouettes, the jacket is designed to disappear completely from the planet when placed in an anaerobic environment for approximately 5 years.

“ALLIED is proud to kick off our new Future Now: program with AAG and Templa and the Designing to Disappear project, and what better way to do so than with an ISPO award,” said Matthew Betcher, creative director with ALLIED. “As a renewable, biodegradable by-product of the food supply chain, down is supremely suited for use in any sustainability-minded apparel program. Not only is it biodegradable, but it is recyclable and boasts an exceedingly low carbon footprint as a raw material. It’s the perfect insulation to combine with biodegradable fabrics and trims.”

This jacket design speaks to Templa’s identity as a luxury outdoor performance brand that navigates the alpine and urban fashion worlds. What elevates and sets the design apart is the unique component materials that are sourced by AAG; they evolve the piece from a puffy jacket into a sustainable garment.

“We are truly honored to accept the ISPO Award for Future Now: Designing to Disappear – The Biodegradable Project,” said Anati Rakocz, Templa founding partner with Templa. “For us, this project is more than just an interesting silhouette or new technology; it is about making responsible choices for meaningful change. And we’re grateful that our efforts, alongside AAG and Allied Feather + Down, have been acknowledged by our industry leaders, reinforcing our belief in the power of collaboration for the greater good.”

The B Corpo-certified AAG draws from an extensive network of materials sourcing experts and leverages superior craftsmanship in manufacturing this one-of-a-kind jacket. All fill, trims, and fabrics are 99+ percent biodegradable, backed by testing by Amni Soul Eco by Solvay and CiCLO.

“As the lines between performance outdoor apparel and fashion continue to blur, and an ever increasing need for more sustainable products drives innovation, we decided it was time to bring these elements together in our Future Now: Designing to Disappear jacket,” said Lori Oscher, group chief design Officer, AAG. “With AAG’s recent B Corp certification, ALLIED’s dedication to sustainable, ethically sourced down, and Templa’s unparalleled ability to design fashion-forward performance wear, we knew we were onto something truly unique and we couldn’t be happier that the ISPO judges agreed.”

This jacket will be on display during ISPO, Dec. 3-5, in the award exhibition area in Hall B1. Visit ALLIED Feather + Down (booth A1.112) and Active Apparel Group (booth A1.640).
