Timbuk2 to Open Fourth U.S. Store; Wallenfels Resigns

Timbuk2 will open its fourth U.S. store in Denver’s historic Larimer Square this spring. The San Francisco-based bag maker opended its second retail store in Seattle last May and had earlier announced plans to open a store in Chicago this spring.

The 1,000-square-foot store is located at 1411 Larimer Street. Previously occupied by Apricot Lane Boutique, Timbuk2 selected this historic neighborhood known for it’s chef-driven restaurants and specialty stores. The space will showcase Timbuk2’s entire product line of more than 100 styles of bags and accessories, including an interactive custom station where customers can design a one-of-a-kind bag or accessory made to order in their San Francisco factory. Timbuk2 Denver will also launch its own in-store bike share program.

On the heels of this announcement, the company announced today that Mike Wallenfels resigned from his position as chief executive officer. Wallenfels will continue to work with Timbuk2’s Board of Directors and senior management team through the end of March. Timbuk2 Board Chairman Ken Pucker will act as CEO with the support of chief operating officer Tony Meneghetti and the senior management team, while a search is conducted for Wallenfels’ replacement.

Wallenfels plans to pursue personal adventures and work as an independent consultant for outdoor-related companies. He joined Timbuk2 in 2009 from Mountain Hardwear Inc., where he held the position as CEO.
