Sustainable Down Source Joins Zero Discharge Efforts

Sustainable Down Source (a division of Down Decor) is pleased to announce it is now a contributing member of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Programme (ZDHC).

ZDHC is committed to achieving zero discharge of hazardous chemicals in the global textiles and footwear industries, as well as the widespread implementation of best practices in wastewater management.

“The ZDHC Programme was born from an awareness that holistic systems change was required, and that to be successful, all participants within the value-chain must be involved,” said ZDHC Foundation Executive Director, Frank Michel. “This year, the Programme is shifting its attention from the development of tools towards implementation. Garnering greater industry support and collaboration is essential to driving these ambitious new standards forward.”

By bringing together brands, suppliers, chemicals and sustainability experts, and non-profit organizations, ZDHC has established industry standards and developed both a support system for widespread implementation and audit protocols to help guide members on the Roadmap to Zero, says the group.

Sustainable Down Source (SDS), a leading bulk down supplier in the outdoor, textile, and apparel industries, is the creator and manufacturer of DownTek Water Repellent Down and DownTek ZeroPFC. SDS says it is committed to being the most innovative, ethical, and sustainable bulk down supplier on the market

Caroline Zapf, Chief Sustainability Officer at SDS, said, “It’s exciting to be part of such an important, cross-industry movement. ZDHC has established a really powerful network of individuals and organizations, all with the shared goal of advancing best practices in chemicals and wastewater management. What ZDHC is doing will not only create a better world for ourselves today, but also help to ensure that future generations can reap the benefits of our efforts instead of paying the price for our short-comings.”
