SUP Festival Set for New York

The Association of Paddlesurf Professionals (APP) today announced the launch of City Paddle Festivals, a participatory three-stop standup paddleboard experience and celebration at three of the world’s most high profile cities (London, New York, Paris). City Paddle Festivals pulls into New York for the New York SUP Open on Saturday, September 15, 2018.

The New York SUP Open will be the United States’ largest SUP festival, said APP. The inaugural event will be held in London, U.K., July 7 – 8, followed by New York, September 15, and capped off with Paris, France, December 8 – 9. All the action for the New York SUP Open will be at Pier 25, Hudson River Park.

“An inclusive, participatory experience for seasoned athletes, passionate enthusiasts and newcomers alike, City Paddle Festivals is a true celebration of water-sports and aspirational lifestyle,” said show organizers. The New York SUP Open will feature SUP participation at every level, as well as live music, entertainment, yoga, food offerings, and more. What sets this event apart is the ability to observe the world’s best battling it out on the water against the iconic backdrop of New York City, in an APP World Championship Tour race. Rounding out the festivities are youth clinics, demonstrations and a festival experience with beer garden, food fair and activities.

Tristan Boxford, CEO of APP said, “City Paddle Festivals are a showcase of the evolution, passion and growth of the paddle and water-sports world, and we’re thrilled to bring the excitement and energy to New York City and its breathtaking waterways. Some of the world’s best athletes such as Slater Trout, Kai Lenny and Candice Appleby will be out in force, right alongside potentially the next generation of watermen and women, and we encourage everyone to come out, get involved, get inspired, and see why SUP is one of the most approachable all-round sports and activities possible.”

As a showcase of the athleticism of the sport, the event will include an 11-kilometer Race Around The Statue of Liberty, open to three categories for both men and women: Amateur, Pro-Am and Pro. Team racing with multi-person craft is open to all.

The Festival also features immersive experiences on dry land, including morning yoga, live music, food and beverage vendors, exhibitors and a pilates evening session. The New York SUP Open, along with all City Paddle Festival events will be aired on CBS Sports Network.
