Struktur Event, the design conference for the outdoor and active industry, announced that April 25-27, 2017 will mark the event’s fourth year of bringing together creative professionals to share ideas, develop skills, and build community. The event will be held at the light-filled and spacious Leftbank Annex, nestled in Portland, Ore.’s Central Eastside.
The Leftbank Annex was originally a machine shop for WWll airplane parts that grew, literally, into the home of its previous owner, the eccentric inventor Dean Child. In August 2010, the Portland Business Journal named the Leftbank Annex one of the Top 25 Meeting Facilities.
The Leftbank Annex has over 14,000 sq feet of open space with lounge areas floating above the main floor. Multiple breakout rooms will provide space for active hands-on sessions while offering more choices for attendees. Sponsors will have display space on the main floor to share their newest developments with attendees, says show organizers.
“We’re very excited to move Struktur Event to a larger space that accommodates more people, but still maintains the intimate feeling we’ve had in the past,” says Michelle Rose, co-founder of the event. “The new space really allows us to serve better our design and creative professionals, as well as our sponsors who want to support and be part of this growing community.”
“This new space will let us offer even more break-out sessions and hands-on workshops,” says Sam Ward, Struktur co-founder. “We believe that active learning experiences are just as – if not more – valuable than passive experiences, so we’re integrating those opportunities into the main conference program. We know designers love to get their hands dirty – and that’s how they absorb knowledge – by doing.”
The new location will spread Struktur Event’s footprint across Portland’s neighborhoods. “The Sentinel Hotel in SW Portland will remain our main hotel partner, with additional eastside hotel options and evening events happening on both sides of the river.” says Rose.
The Portland Streetcar will provide door-to-door connection between the hotel and the Annex, and other modes of transportation such as the MAX lightrail and the Biketown bike system add to the non-car options.
“We really love when folks can get around the event using alternative modes of transportation wherever possible. Beyond the obvious environmental reasons, it’s more fun and connects folks to the outdoors, the city, and to each other.”
Registration opens in February, 2017.
