SOG Names Wegner VP of Marketing

SOG Specialty Knives and Tools has named Jonathan Wegner as its new Vice President of Marketing. Wegner comes aboard just in time to join the SOG team at the 2018 Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show being held at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.

With more than a decade of high-level marketing and communications experience, Wegner honed his professional skills working within a mix of companies, including large-scale defense contractors such as Raytheon, to consumer electronics start-ups, such as LifeProof, where he was a member of the founding management team.

Prior to joining SOG, he served as Vice President of Marketing and Design for Crowd & Company, a California-based consulting agency that specializes in marketing, design, and product development with early and mid-stage start-ups.

“Given his past professional successes, Jonathan will play a key role in our long-term vision for SOG,” said Joe Mc Swiney, CEO of SOG. “As we develop and execute on a broad-based update and strengthening of our brand, we’ll lean heavily on Jonathan to bring his strategic capabilities into the mix.”

An Australian native, Wegner completed post-graduate studies in Marketing Communications at the University of Canberra and has a background in design.

“As a long-time SOG user, I’m honored to be given the opportunity to progress the brand and build on SOG’s 30-year pedigree,” said Wegner. “There’s a compelling roadmap planned for the next several years designed to emphasize SOG’s commitment to making products that enable our core users, leverage key technologies and introduce new developments that will continue our tradition of equipping users with tools they trust and rely on.”

As VP of Marketing, Wegner will oversee all marketing activities, brand development, optimization of direct-to-consumer sales, and product line management. Chris Cashbaugh, long-time marketing director at SOG, will transition from day-to-day marketing activities to lead the company’s product management capability as Senior Director of Product Line Management.
