Snow Peak is prepping for the official opening of its second North American retail location. Located at 59 Crosby Street in New York’s SoHo neighborhood, the store will open its doors on Friday November 20. In addition to Snow Peak’s apparel and high-end camping gear, the 2,200 square foot SoHo Snow Peak Store will also carry a changing selection of brands it feels compliments the outdoor-inspired lifestyle Snow Peak caters to.
The concept of the new NYC Snow Peak Store is based on the pursuit of harmony with nature found in the Japanese countryside, said the company, giving customers an experience of nature within the city. Clean white walls surround a number of Ash wood fixtures and islands of rock and live plants. Locally crafted displays interact with an adaptable ceiling-mounted system that supports the needs of a constantly evolving retail space.
Snow Peak has enlisted the design/build team of Andrea Westerlind and Grant Blakeslee to create a space focused on elevated and artistic displays, in keeping with the Snow Peak’s clean and streamlined aesthetic. Westerlind and Blakeslee most recently created the Westerlind Store in Park City, Utah, which GQ magazine named, “America’s Most Stylish Outdoor Clothing Store.”
“It is our mission to cultivate a community who lives life conscious of nature and to provide a respite from your urban life,” said Nate Borne, Snow Peak’s general manager. “We have so many friends in New York longing for nature and we see a great calling for us there.”
In 2013, Snow Peak opened its first flagship store in the Pearl District of Portland, Oregon where the brand’s U.S. headquarters are located.
“Snow Peak has always been known for its high-end camping equipment, which is often found in traditional outdoor shops,” added Borne. “But our SoHo store will provide us an opportunity to tell the entire Snow Peak story and show how beautiful design can translate across our entire line of gear and apparel.”
