PrimaLoft Extends Down-Alternative Offerings

PrimaLoft, which develops advanced material technology, announced that it has expanded its synthetic down alternative portfolio with two new high-performance insulations. The Insulation ThermoPlume+ and Insulation RISE loose fill, the company noted, have each achieve the performance and aesthetic of natural down while adding the advantages of PrimaLoft synthetic fibers within a sustainable chassis.

Global outdoor brands such as adidas TERREX, RAB and Nike are a few of the first brands to adopt them into their collections for the Fall/Winter 2024 season.

“Our latest loose fill offerings have been developed to serve a variety of needs for our customers,” said Tara Maurer-Mackey, SVP product strategy. “Performance brands appreciate the products’ durability, packability and top thermal performance, even in wet conditions. Fashion and lifestyle partners are drawn to PrimaLoft synthetic down alternatives by the down-like hand feel, luxurious puffiness, sustainability and animal welfare considerations. Across categories, brands value the design flexibility and ease of manufacturing our loose fill options provide.”

ThermoPlume+ offers increased loft and structural integrity with less material. As a synthetic down-alternative designed to mimic lightweight warmth, loft, softness and compressibility, it blends two unique fiber shapes to increase thermal properties. ThermoPlume+ requires 20 percent less material to create the same loft, compared to PrimaLoft’s ThermoPlume technology.

It also combines existing sail-shaped fiber structure with spherical fiber balls to create a unified structural network. The empty spaces between the differing forms create a scaffolding effect that delivers a structurally resilient loft, providing down-like warmth and hand-feel. Unlike treated down, ThermoPlume+ synthetic fibers provide fluorocarbon-free water resistance and insulation.

RISE loose fill, meanwhile, offers a high performance, lightweight, compression resistant alternative based on PrimaLoft’s RISE technology. With it, PrimaLoft employs a unique fiber construction to create a high-performance loose fill product with thermal values, weight, compression resistance and loft comparable to high-quality natural down. This vegan down alternative uses 100 percent post-consumer recycled material for a 650 fill power.

Early adopters for the upcoming Winter 2024 season 2024 include adidas, TERREX and Rab. Other brands adopting the new loose fill insulations include Nike, Bomboogie, Ecoalf, La Sportiva, Ternua, Chlorophylle, Kingsland, Lole, Ripzone, Woods and Paul & Shark, among others.
