NFCT Seeks Summer Trail Interns

The Northern Forest Canoe Trail is accepting applications for its 2014 Summer Internship Program. The Vermont-based non-profit manages the 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail that stretches across four states and a Canadian province from New York to Maine. Seven intern positions are available.

Three Stewardship interns will spend the summer along the water doing trail projects including improving campsites, river access, and signage. They will also lead groups of volunteers on overnight work trips.

Two Allagash Wilderness Waterway User Impact Surveyors will spend up to 9 weeks in northern Maine performing campsite and portage surveys. Survey results will help aid corridor management.

Two Youth Program Interns will help lead 5-day paddling trips with rural youth, ages 10–14 years old, who live in Trailside communities. The goal of these trips is to connect youth to the natural world that surrounds them. Interns will teach basic outdoor skills, youth-friendly environmental relationships, and team-building.

Internships run from June 9 to August 15. Candidates must be 18 years old at the time of the internship. Application deadline: Friday, March 14.
