CORDURA Recognizes Granite Gear with Inaugural ‘Durable Design’ Award

INVISTA’S CORDURA brand’s first Durable Design Achievement award was presented to Dan Cruikshank and Jeff Knight with Granite Gear at the 2014 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market. The award recognizes a company or person’s commitment to crafting high performance, innovative products that utilize CORDURA fabric in the product design.

Knight and Cruikshank co-founded Granite Gear in 1986 after a paddling trip deep in the heart of Quetico convinced them they could make successful gear. Together they built Granite Gear with a mission to offer products that are not just creative, but innovative.

“It’s an honor to receive CORDURA brand’s first Durable Design Achievement award,” said Granite Gear Co-Founder Dan Cruikshank. “CORDURA fabric is woven with high tenacity yarns that always test out to be the best for both tear strength and abrasion resistance, often offering double the pounds to tear and twice the time to abrade through the fabric. Out on the trail, we put the minds of adventure enthusiasts at ease because our packs and CORDURA fabrics prove they go the distance each season.”

For more than a quarter century, Granite Gear’s products have included CORDURA brand fabric. Most recently, Granite Gear introduced its Quetico Canoe Portage Pack made with 210D CORDURA Lite fabric. This 82-liter capacity pack is designed with true ergonomics and functionality in mind, and also brings together the heritage of their inspirational Quetico paddling trip beginnings with the strength and lightweight durability of CORDURA brand fabric.

“We are honored to award our first CORDURA Durable Design Achievement award to Jeff and Dan, industry leaders and true design pioneers. For decades, Granite Gear incorporated CORDURA fabric into essentially all of the company’s outstanding product line, helping to make their gear durable, versatile, and reliable,” said Cindy McNaull, global CORDURA brand and marketing director. “The CORDURA brand team has had the sincere pleasure to work with the Granite Gear team since their inception, and we are thrilled to be a part of the Granite Gear heritage and they a part of ours.”
