Chemours Adds Renewably Sourced, Non-fluorinated DWR Technology

Further helping brands in minimizing the environmental impact of their textile supply chain, the Chemours Company is expanding its commercial product offerings of nonfluorinated DWR products with the introduction of Zelan R2 PLUS, which contains 30% renewably sourced plant-based raw materials and is focused on delivering a high level of durable water repellency for all substrates.

Zelan R2 PLUS complements Zelan R3, the chemistry for Teflon EcoElite, the first renewably sourced finish that provides high durable water repellent (DWR) performance and is up to three times more durable than existing non-fluorinated repellents, said the company. Zelan R3 is bluesign approved and is an approved input finishing chemical for GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified textile products+. Zelan R3 also contains 60% renewably sourced, plant-based raw materials.

Zelan R3 is commercially run at more than 200 mills in more than 30 countries and today more than 24 million consumer articles feature and promote the Teflon EcoElite brand. Huntsman Textile Effects is the global distributor for all Zelan products.

“Zelan R3 has quickly established itself as the benchmark non-fluorinated technology in the market today. Its outstanding performance and sustainability credentials have earned wide acceptance by brands and retailers the world over,” said Lee Howarth, Global Marketing Manager for Finishing at Huntsman Textile Effects. “We are very excited to again partner with Chemours on the introduction of Zelan R2 Plus which we strongly believe will further strengthen our position as industry leaders in the transition to non-fluorinated technologies.”
