Cascade Designs to Relocate 100 Jobs to Reno

Cascade Designs is moving 100 jobs to a new manufacturing and distribution facility in Reno, Nev., according to reports. The move is expected to start later this year to accommodate growth at lower costs.

The facility, which is expected to open in August, will handle all distribution for Cascade Design’s brands, which include MSR, Therm-a-Rest, SealLine, Platypus and four other brands. The company has given affected employees six to 10 months to decide whether to relocate to Reno, but is only offering to pay relocation expenses to a handful of management employees.

When the Seattle City Council voted last summer to phase in a $15 an hour minimum wage beginning April 1, 2015, the company accelerated its search for new manufacturing and distribution space, but the bulk of Cascade Design’s 300 to 350 employees will continue to work at its headquarters south of downtown Seattle.
