500+ Stores Signed Up for Free Shipping Day

Scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 18, Free Shipping Day is ramping up with more than 500 retailers signed up to participate. Stores including REI, American Eagle, Harry & David, Under Armour, J.Crew and The Limited will offer a minimum of free shipping and delivery by Christmas Eve. Specific offers will be revealed on Dec. 18, with many stores offering discounts in addition to free shipping.

“Our most popular offers include extra discounts,” says Luke Knowles, founder of Free Shipping Day. “In the past, we’ve seen discounts of anywhere from 10 to 50-percent off, in addition to free shipping with no minimum order requirements.”

The waiving of minimum order thresholds is significant, as more and more consumers are realizing “free shipping” typically comes with a price attached. In fact, 93 percent of shoppers have added items to their shopping carts to qualify for the offer, according to a survey conducted by comScore for UPS. The success of Free Shipping Day also points to popularity of the perk, with events in 2011 and 2012 surpassing $1 billion in online sales.

“With Free Shipping Day, shoppers don’t have to jump through hoops to get true free delivery,” continues Knowles. “It’s a given now, and shoppers can focus on getting what they need in time for the holidays.”

Stores interested in participating can use the merchant sign-up form to submit their information. Knowles’ team will be adding offers up until the event, and all offers will go live at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 18.
