In 2008, SOLE began working with ReCORK, North America’s largest wine cork recycling initiative, to produce sports sandals using recycled wine corks. Now the company has incorporated 100% recycled natural wine cork into its customizable footbeds.
Canadian company SOLE has established itself as a leader in pain reduction and orthopedic health thanks its award-winning and fan-favorite customizable footbed product. With millions of footbeds sold all over the world, SOLE is now changing the game and is pioneering a new innovation: made using 100% recycled natural wine corks.
According to SOLE, the use of recycled cork in footbeds is a completely original and environmentally friendly invention. The cork used is recycled by which was adopted by SOLE in 2008. Repurposing natural wine corks into footwear removes it from the waste stream while creating a natural material that replaces environmentally harmful ones otherwise used in footwear production.
Recycled cork is ideal for use in footbeds as it is also moisture-wicking, odor-reducing and has an elasticity that absorbs shock and allows it to mold to the wearer’s feet. SOLE’s new footbed collections have three levels of cushioning.
The footbed collections include the freshly released Casual footbeds, which feature soft premium leather topsheets for comfortable casual wear and the Active with Met Pad collection, the first SOLE footbeds to have a built-in metatarsal pad that relieves pressure and relaxes tendons in the forefoot. Also included in SOLE’s new recycled cork footbeds in the Performance collection, three footbeds sponsored by SOLE’s signature athletes, Dean Karnazes, Ed Viesturs and Chris Davenport, who donate to charity with each purchase.
