Things have gone full circle. According to reports, Emerald Expositions, the parent company of Outdoor Retailer, Surf Expo and Interbike, is set to acquire the Snow Show from SIA. The move has been approved by the SIA board and now only must be approved by a majority of members, which are expected to vote on May 24, at a meeting to be held at SIA offices in Park City, Utah.
Those who have been around long enough recall that the Outdoor Retailer show largely started all those years ago because brands and retailers in the outdoor specialty space felt the SIA’s ski show wasn’t serving their needs. Now it appears the two events will become one. In turn, it seems a rather safe bet that the Winter OR show will be moving to Denver (along with the Summer Show).
News of the acquisition first appeared in a letter to SIA members informing them of the offer by Emerald, the approval by the board and the upcoming member vote.
“A combined show means a more effective platform for our members to do business and a greater return on their tradeshow investment. This also means one less winter tradeshow in an increasingly congested tradeshow landscape,” said SIA in the letter.
According to reports, the purchase price for the proposed sale is $16.7 million. Emerald Expositions currently operates more than 50 trade shows.
