InsideOutdoor | SUMMER 2022 31 LG Business Solutions USA recently introduced the company’s first multipurpose customer service robot, the LG CLOi. The “GuideBot” is designed to provide wayfinding, enhanced security, advertising opportunities and data on interaction times and usage, announced LG. The robot’s “friendly digital face, responsive voice activation and two large touch screens are designed to revolutionize the customer experience virtually everywhere from museums and convention centers to movie theaters and hotels.” It’s not the first autonomous service robot from LG; “it’s the first to tackle complex user interactions like answering voice questions, accompanying guests to their destination and tracking how many times a motion-activated advertisement is displayed in a day,” said Jeffrey Weiland, B2B robotics team leader at LG Business Solutions USA. The GuideBot can greet, inform and entertain customers in a variety of settings and situations, from museum exhibits and movie theaters to corporate offices and hospitals, said Weiland, “all while gathering valuable data on usage that can be used to streamline operations and improve customer experiences.” The robot runs nine hours on a five-hour charging time. It can travel 2.2 MPH, respond to changes in foot traffic and physically guide individuals to their destinations. Oboz Footwear and Black Folks Camp Too (BFCT) released the first in a series of footwear focused videos as part BFCT’s Digital Education Initiative (DEI). The Digital Education Initiative is a key element to BFCT’s mission to educate more Black folks, as well as other uninitiated campers and hikers, on the basics and joys of getting into the outdoors. The video series is available on Oboz’s YouTube channel as well as through the “Outside 101” pages of Oboz’s and BFCT’s respective websites. The first video focuses on the importance of hiking footwear with the following videos to cover how to get properly fitted for footwear, overall foot health and information on the BFCT + OBOZ O FIT Insole Plus collaboration that was announced last year. Each video features Oboz’s Outreach and Training team who throughout the year educate and assist retail staff at Oboz retail locations across the country. In the videos they present and discuss the importance of footwear and foot health while on the trail with BFCT’s founder Earl B. Hunter, Jr. in an approachable and informative manner. “The BFCT + Oboz Footwear partnership is a prime example of two companies starting at the toenail of the elephant,” said Hunter. “Together, we discussed and developed a plan, we methodically and expeditiously moved forward, now we are trusting our work as we continue to improve our process to educate folks about footwear and trails. We are changing the world ... one campfire at a time folks!” This summer, the Winnebago Industries Foundation is funding a new internship program in partnership with Camber Outdoors, a nonprofit driving workplace inclusion, diversity and equity in the outdoor industry. In total, five outdoor recreation companies are hosting fifteen interns with the goal of building career pathways for diverse talent. The Camber’s “Future of Work” internship program connects companies with students through a summer experience that provides resources and training to both students and employers. Winnebago Industries and the Winnebago Industries Foundation provided initial, multi-year support for the initiative. In addition to placements with teams within their field of study, interns participate in cohort-based learning experiences. Within the next three years, Camber plans to expand the program to include additional schools and employers, with the goal of placing 125 interns.
