Inside Outdoor | SUMMER 2020 22 releasing its new Rambler and Mav- erick entry-level touring bikes. According to Marshall Randall, director of sales and marketing at parent company WizWheelz, the company is seeing growing interest in trikes among younger generations. “You’re seeing us push into an age group well below the Baby Boomers,” Randall said. “Our chan- nel historically been made up of those who aged off their two-wheel bike, or found themselves unable to ride anymore. But now, more people are looking for other means of trans- portation.” Randall mentioned how younger consumers are looking for new ways to express themselves and how they tend to be more open minded about using different types of cycling mechanisms. Comfort, functionality and a general disre- gard for what others think is “in” right now – the trike market is ben- efitting as a result. “It’s common for us to see a much younger person than what we’re marketing to using our prod- uct because it fits their lifestyle,” Randall continued. “People are not as concerned about being ‘normal.’ That mindset is really helping to break down barriers. People are overcoming hang-ups about what- ever they think a bike should be.” Trikes also are gaining popularity among consumers who are deal- ing with health issues or nagging injuries yet want to live an active lifestyle and recreate. “[Trikes] are absolutely great for people that have had issues like strokes, weight issues, limb loss or balance issues,” Randall said. “That is still a big part of our general market.” According to Randall, TerraTrike is now fast-tracking inventory and work- ing to bring more products to the U.S., in order to help dealers keep up with demand. As for overall inventory, Wiz- Wheelz is in a strong position heading into the second half of 2020, said Ran- dall. The company recently acquired Australian brand GreenSpeed in Feb- ruary, which is a legacy manufacturer of trikes. According to Randall, much of the GreenSpeed inventory has been brought to the U.S., adding to the stockpile of available trikes. Demand is likely to increase even more in the coming months, too, as consumers start seeing more trikes on roads, paths and trails. “Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd,” Randall concluded. “As more people see recumbent trikes out there, more people will gravitate towards them.” TerraTrike’s Rambler model Buyer’s Side
